Meet Kate Minto, Burkin Svendsens Funeral's location manager.
What do you enjoy about your job?
What I enjoy about my job is assisting families in a critical and difficult time in their life.
How long have you been a location manager?
I have been a location manager since May 2018 and been working for Burkin Svendsens for 3 years.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I am a busy mum of 3. When I am not at work I love gardening and of course spending time with friends and family.
Are there any special community groups you work with or support?
I am also very involved in our community life volunteering at hospitals and for charities such as Cancer Council or delivering meals for Meals on Wheels.
"I come from a strong customer service background and found myself as a grief support volunteer for a local group. This lead me to the funeral industry. It is an honour to be able to assist families in this journey and to be there to listen to their needs and help provide a service that best suits them."
Garry brings more than 5 years' experience within the funeral industry to Burkin Svendsens Funerals, where he presently assists client families by arranging and conducting funeral services for their loved ones.
"I am a Funeral Director for Burkin Svendsens Funerals, assisting families with arranging and conducting services. I’ve always found comfort in helping people, while I am caring for their family at times of particular need. In addition to my work within the funeral industry I am planning to study for a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and thereby enhance my ability to understand, appreciate and connect with people in my community."
"I first joined the funeral industry at a small funeral home in Cairns in April 2006. I joined Burkin Svendsens Funerals in April 2007 as a trainee embalmer with Aaron Burkin becoming my embalming mentor. Since starting in the industry, I have worked from washing and cleaning vehicles to embalming in very remote locations and have loved every minute of it."
"I started my career in the funeral industry with a small family funeral home and decided to further my knowledge and skills in the industry, which lead me to working with Burkin Svendsens Funerals. I am looking into studying Embalming as it is my overall career goal. I enjoy caring for and looking after every family and their needs when it comes to these difficult times."
"I was previously an Assistant in Nursing working in various Aged Care facilities and Hospitals for nearly 3 years where I had the opportunity to give respect, including cultural respect, show empathy, dignity and be a professional communicator as well as observe, document and report whilst ensuring safe work practice and mentoring of staff. My experience in Nursing, as well as my background in Retail, Hospitality, Warehousing & Logistics, has cemented my career in an organization that allows me to multitask and prioritize as well as being client-focused and results-driven which has led me to become a Funeral Arranger / Conductor where I can support and assist to guide Families and Individuals through their time of grief and loss."
